A representação tem um valor imenso. Primeiro por que ela é a primeira entrada para a discussão, então quando nós colocamos uma pessoa negra, uma pessoa trans, uma pessoa com deficiência num lugar onde não estamos acostumadas a vê-las, isso em si, já é um revolução, mas essa revolução não pode parar. A gente tem que partir disso e não terminar nisso.

Não adianta botar só na campanha. Então a gente tem um trabalho que ele passa de um lugar de representação da mulher para um lugar de ação sobre o problema. De uma representação estética sobre a mulher, para uma representação ética sobre o problema.

It's all based around storytelling. I ask all the speakers that come to speak at the New Narrative--there's just two big things that I ask them for: be brave and tell a story.

Can I make a passion project a full-time gig? Is it right to make a passion project a full-time gig? Like, I should just go get a job like everybody else and do this on the side, right? Nah, no.

Storytelling can have a bigger utility here. Because I saw how, you know, when we shared our stories with each other, there was something very vulnerable and connecting about that, and it's a very simple thing.

Where placemaking comes in as an approach to continuing to connect the border and lift these communities and share the stories and people that exist on both sides of the border.

We strive to welcome really good ideas and want to work with great partners and come around to more and more projects that bring positive momentum to the boulevard.

That's sort of a learning lesson around urban planning in general, that there's a lot of policies and good ideas, but very little action. But ultimately, you know, we have to take action into our own hands and showcase the possibilities.

Right now I would say that we're very insecure about what's going on in our nation.

I would like to see every community in San Diego plant 100 trees a year.

Showcasing the barrios on both sides of the border.

Through piloting something you can test the results, share data, and hopefully move towards long term implementation.

Ultimately, we have to take action into our own hands and showcase the possibilities.

Being radical is about caring deeply and working hard for change
