I’m a painter from South Texas. I value and practice the study of nature through careful observation, and do so by painting and drawing from life. In my still life paintings I depict nostalgic subjects that reflect both my Mexican and Honduran heritage, and my experiences living in a Texas-border town. Lately, my figurative work has focused on the immigrant vendors of New York City. It is such a comfort to know that I can get a taste of home out on the streets of New York. For my figurative vendor paintings I use photo reference. Mexico is rich in culture, and I celebrate it with the use of bright colors, and iconic subjects. While some of my paintings are pretty straightforward, I also mix in works that have social commentary ranging from the ever-present beggar culture in Mexico to honoring the victims of the September 19th, 2017 earthquake in Mexico City.
