Sometimes a CreativeMornings/Derby theme and the speaker go together like peanut butter and jam (a match made in heaven!).

That’s what we have with this month’s speaker, Karina Martin.

Karina has been involved in social venture leadership for over 25 years and is passionate about seeing lives changed through building sustainable enterprises. In 2005 she founded the refugee charity Upbeat Communities, which led to the launch of Welcome Boxes nationally, in 2015. She has incubated several social enterprises and innovative projects alongside people on the margins, and recently completed her Master’s in Social Innovation from the University of Cambridge.

Since 2020 Karina has been Head of Business Development and Social Innovation at Reach Events. As well as a vision to provide outstanding service, the events and conferencing business on Pride Park reinvests all its profits into Reach, a Christian charity, which benefits young people, families, recovering addicts, the homeless and refugees. In 2022, Reach mobilised over 200 volunteers to serve more than 1000 people from these groups, and supported 10 grassroots charities in the East Midlands.

Join us for free for the first CreativeMornings/Derby of 2023 on Friday 20th January from 10.00am at Reach Events.

January ’s Theme is Sanctuary.

You can stop running now, you are safe here. A sanctuary offers protection to those who are vulnerable: those who are fleeing violence, those who have been cast off and told there is no place for them there, even animals whose habitats have disappeared. Here is a place where you can finally lay your head down and rest.

The original meaning of sanctuary was a sacred place, containing a holy relic or person. A sanctuary recognizes that each of us, no matter where we have came from or what we’ve done, and our needs — for a full belly, for a roof, for safety, to be free from worry — are inviolable and whole.

Where is it that you find refuge? What happens to your body when you cross its threshold? And most importantly, how can you hold the door open for others?

Our Sheffield chapter chose this month’s exploration of Sanctuary, Lisa Maltby illustrated the theme, and Mailchimp is presenting the theme.

We’re digging into this month’s CreativeMornings/Derby theme of Abundance and heading YADA Collective CIC

YADA offers an inclusive environment for those who are sober, those who are cutting down and those who just feel like a night off from alcohol every once in a while. Just because you’re not drinking doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the fun!

Rounding up our Creative years is the wonderful Craig Picton.

After moving to the city of Derby for University, Craig very quickly fell in love with the area, its people, its culture and the abundance of opportunities that it has to offer. He has a passion for giving people a voice, seeing lives transformed and getting creative initiatives that benefit the local community off the ground.

He started his career in digital marketing at one of the UK’s first social media marketing agencies. And has since gone on to found both his own digital marketing agency (Sticky Bee Marketing) and a community focused, non-alcoholic bar that aspires to revolutionise the night time economy, particularly surrounding its drinking culture (YADA Collective CIC)

Craig believes in the power and importance of community and a significant element of YADA Collective involves creatively building and engaging with people typically excluded from social norms.

Craig also coordinates the communications for local homeless and poverty prevention charity, Derby City Mission.

In his personal life, he has a passion for rustic woodwork and also loves to be out and about exploring the countryside, hiking, Geocaching, and general outdoor activities.

Connect with Craig on LinkedIn, or send him an email today - Craig@StickyBeeMarketing.co.uk

December’s CreativeMornings Theme is Abundance.

Abundance is a state of plenty. In an intensely competitive society, we often feel like we have the opposite. Capitalism breeds a mentality of scarcity — it’s hard to feel like we have enough when we’re constantly trying to accumulate more.

Gratitude magnifies our experience of abundance. When we marvel at the taste of ripe summer fruit, juice bursting from its skin. When we set a table, a seat for every person we cherish, and bathe in the radiance.

Generosity multiplies abundance. When we prioritize mutual flourishing over private stockpiling, plant ecologist Robin Wall Kimmerer posits, “the practice for dealing with abundance is to give it away.” Once you stop hoarding what you fear to lose, you find that the more you share, the richer — in community, in wellbeing — you become.

What would it take for us to feel like we have enough? What does it take for us to unclench our fists and share our overflowing bounty?

Our Santa Fe chapter chose this month’s exploration of Abundance, Neebinnaukzhik Southall illustrated the theme, and Mailchimp is presenting the theme.

We know that a good collab is a sweet sweet thing.

Collaboration encourages problem-solving, establishes responsibility, and also helps bring more attention to details. Working together helps keep each other accountable. There will be a responsiveness to critique, which will increase creativity and overall execution.

This month we’re collaborating on our event with CivicLAB from the @derbyuni

CivicLAB is an interdisciplinary research group centred on participatory culture, creative dialogue and experiential design for social impact. How do we build communities and how can we create the conditions in which those communities can sustainably develop, innovate and thrive within the social, economic, environmental and cultural challenges of the 21st century?

The road-trip continues! This month we’re at the Enterprise Centre from @derbyuni

This amazing location offers some of the best event space in the city and the team will be on hand if you want to find out more about space hire on the day.

As an extra bonus, attendees will also be able to stay on and take advantage of the lovely coworking space for free!

Friday 18th November from 11.30am @derbyuni Enterprise Centre.

Hannah loves nothing more than engaging and inspiring individuals to realise their full potential and thrive in this increasingly demanding world. She believes that you are never

too young or too old to learn how to be the best version of yourself.

Hannah is a teacher by trade. But she’s also worked as a basil picker (yes, the herb), an events manager and a personal trainer, Hannah believes life is all about the acquisition of skills. She has a background in Psychology and a passion for POSITIVE Psychology. In fact she’s a bit nerdy about wellbeing which is why she loves working for Art of Brilliance – a wellbeing training company which specialises in helping individuals and organisations become their best selves more often.

Be it an individual, school or business setting, Hannah comes armed with strategies and insights linked to leadership and team work and ultimately helping you flourish inside and outside the workplace or the classroom. She knows that life is busy, so she is all about giving you short, practical tips that won’t take up any more of your time, in fact they might just help you save time. Hannah knows that wellbeing can be achieved by small simple steps, but it is no small simple thing. These small simple changes add up to make an amazing life.

Hannah has implemented whole-school wellbeing programmes, worked with children, young people and adults. She realises that she can’t change the world, but she might be able to help you change the world inside you by giving you an empowering mindset.

Whatever your age and circumstances, Hannah wants to help you inch closer to your ideal you.

November ’s Theme is Truth.

Truth lies at the bottom of a well, winding from its source in the icepack of distant mountains. Truth tastes pristine, uncompromised by what would be profitable or convenient. Truth causes your body to hum like a tuning fork, resonating at the same frequency as the universe around you. “When you experience an undeniable truth,” writer and social worker Jessica Dore observes, “you will beg, borrow, and steal. You will rearrange your whole life, forsake everything, just to serve what is real.”

And yet the truth is fiercely contested when competing narratives collide. We forge our truth in a crucible, testing its strength through heat and hammering. Instead of smashing our convictions against one another like a particle accelerator, could we sort through the messy, contradicting facts from all around us, together? Can we wade through paradox, the dark tangle of it all, and make sense of the world?

Our Buenos Aires chapter chose this month’s exploration of Truth and Sol Cotti illustrated the theme.
