About the speaker

Wendy Chua is a product and spatial designer based in Singapore. She has studied in Singapore and Lausanne, Switzerland; and worked in London before setting up her practice Outofstock with three co-founders. Having received the President’s Design Award for Black Forest table, she currently lectures in National University of Singapore and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. The multi-cultural design collective was born out of a fortuitous meeting in Stockholm, hence the name Outofstock. Gabriel Tan and Wendy Chua from Singapore, Gustavo Maggio from Argentina and Sebastián Alberdi from Spain met in 2005 and decided to collaborate one year later. What started out as a creative experiment grew into an integrated studio offering furniture, lighting, interior design and art direction. Outofstock’s work includes furniture and lighting for international clients such as Ligne Roset (France), Saazs (France), Bolia (Denmark), IPC Designerbox (France), Environment (USA), Scanteak and Foundry (Singapore). Their emphasis on craftsmanship can be seen in the spaces they create, such as Plain Vanilla Bakery, Hatched restaurant, Burger King Garden Grill and Silicon Straits colab office.
