Only in the kitchen would chef Tu David Phu’s mother share a bit of her experiences, living through and fleeing war in Cambodia. Though that trauma presented itself in their day-to-day lives, his parents never spoke of their trials as refugees. Slowly through making meals together, Tu learned how his mother would cook with only what was available during wartime. Choice ingredients in recipes held within them a story of making do with what you’re handed.
