Access to language, and the importance of the space between to individuals

About the speaker

Siobhan is an audiologist, musician and activist who has devoted her study & work to helping individuals hear. Through her PhD she is researching the prevention of music induced hearing loss, encapsulating live venue sound management and the physiological rewards of loud music. As a clinician she focuses on hearing rehabilitation and tinnitus management through the University of Melbourne’s audiology clinic, where she also assists in student supervision and lecturing. In 2015, spurred on by a desire to find a sustainable way to fund hearing care in the developing world, she founded Musicians for Hearing. The Melbourne based non-for-profit uses live music events as a platform to not only fundraise, but promote hearing awareness in musicians and Deaf inclusion in the art. By doing so, they hope to give those who might not otherwise have had the chance, an opportunity at language, communication and music.
