About the speaker

Silas House is the New York Times bestselling author of six novels, one book of environmental nonfiction, and three plays. His work has been published in Time, The New York Times, Garden and Gun, and many other publications. He is the recipient of the E.B. White Award, the Storylines Prize from the New York Pubic LIbrary/NAV Foundation, the Nautilus Award, the Appalachian Book of the Year, and many other prizes. A former commentator for NPR’s “All Things Considered,” House has been long-listed for the Carnegie Medal. He is a member of the Fellowship of Southern Writers and serves as the NEH Chair at Berea College and on the fiction faculty at the Spalding School of Creative Writing. He is a native of Eastern Kentucky and now lives in Lexington.
