About the speaker

Sead Kazanxhiu (born in July 1987), is a visual multimedia artist, lives and works in Tirana. He works in various mediums, including painting, installation, video and performance.
Education:
2006 - 2010 | Diploma in Fine Arts (Painting), University of Arts, Tirana, Albania.
2011 - 2012 | Roma English Language Program, Central European University, Budapest.
2018 - 2019 | Albanian School of Political Studies.
Kazanxhiu’s practice as a multidisciplinary artist and more generally as a cultural producer, reflects his position as an Albanian Roma citizen. Through his profound awareness of the ways that social and political hierarchies within the nation-state reinforce unequal privileges and prevent participation, Kazanxhiu’s practice foregrounds and addresses issues of politics, activism, prejudice, exclusion, and the environment. His image making represents the efforts of a single artist devoted to restoring the dignity of a cultural group that has been forcefully and unjustly marginalized within the structures of European democracy.
Kazanxhiu has exhibited internationally and notable exhibitions.

Since 2021, Kazanxhiu has been appointed as Vice-Chair of the Committee of National Minorities in the Republic of Albania, where he continues to be at present.
Founder and manager of Parking Art Gallery
Kazanxhiu is also the Vice-Chairman of the Board of ERIAC European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture in Berlin.
