About the speaker
A Glaswegian by birth, Sally Steele, the daughter of an ex-pat, spent most of her younger years living and travelling extensively in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
After finishing her Masters between University of St Andrew and the Sorbonne in Paris, Sally initially worked teaching English and then a Cultural Protocol Liaison in rural Japan for several years, before returning to London and working in Japanese Market Analysis, Brand Direction and Trend Forecasting for brands including Evian, Calvin Klein & The Body Shop.
On emigration to Australia in 2001, Sally took up the invitation to work with Troy Lum at Dendy Films and continued to work with his new company Hopscotch (now eOneANZ) from its inception and is responsible for over 150 Film, TV strategic comms campaigns and coverage of some of the most seminal independent films of the last 15 years.
Sally has worked with brands including The Sydney Film Festival, SBS, Samsung, Tag Heuer, James Squire, Van Heusen, 97.3FM, BBC Worldwide, SunSoaked, Red Bull, Asia Pacific Screen Awards and National Geographic Channel to name a few.
Her extensive experience has led her to be called upon for a broad spectrum of consultancy services across Marketing & Communications, Sponsorship & Branding, Styling & Creative Direction, Media & Social Media management, Celebrity Partnerships, Community Engagement & Strategic Stakeholder Relationships.
Since first moving to Brisbane 10 years ago, she has also been in demand as a speaker on authentic branding, bold mindset and vision creation, circular fashion & sustainable style with organisations including Brisbane Fashion Weekend, Brisbane City Council, Design Institute of Australia, Modern Women’s Expo, Nova Entertainment, Harcourts real estate, M&C Saatchi among others.
In 2016 she set up her SpotMyStyle online community with the hashtags #SpotMyStyle & #realstreetstyle to help clients and women celebrate individuality, beauty diversity, ageless style, style creativity, sustainability and self expression. The now global community has passed 200k combined posts with women of all ages, shapes, sizes and ethnicities joining in and providing strong body diversity media messages for women everywhere.
A 48 year old working mama with two kids, Sally is only too aware of the everyday reality of “Life Jenga” but helps individuals, brands, entrepreneurs, events, businesses, audiences, government agencies, cultivate self love, change mindsets, maximise potential, make big ideas happen and create meaningful connections.
She is now recording her podcast, online program, writing a second book and has joined forces with 2 friends to create Brisbane’s social and business women’s club The Friday Collective.
Dare More, Care Less is her first book. A new genre - almost a lifestyle guide - part self help, style and street style coffee table book.
It is self funded, self published and self distributed in Australia and UK. The 1st print run sold out in 9wks in 2019. Sally is now looking to the US and global distribution.
Sally lives in Brisbane, Australia with her 2 young daughters, husband of 25 years and scruffy wee dog.
