About the speaker
Precious de Leon writes poetry, personal essays, and short stories through the lens of a Filipino-Canadian settler in Mohkinstsis. She was a business journalist and magazine editor in the Middle East before her foray into creative writing in 2019 with an emerging writers mentorship program that is now called Own Voices Alberta. She has shared her literary work at the People’s Poetry Festival, Filipino Fiesta events, AWCS’ Wine & Words, and the Alcove Centre of the Arts’ Chinook Blast and Raw Voices. She is also working with a not-for-profit organization to change the conversation around mental health in the Filipino community through art and creative expression. Precious is the Program Director for Community Engagement at the Alexandra Writers Centre.
