“To be curious, you need freedom and you need time.” Hidden City Philadelphia’s Pete Woodall explains how curiosity fueled his urban exploration and more.
Pete Woodall’s curiosity about Philadelphia began back in the 1980s with his initial forays into Philly’s subways and vacant factories. Later, he photographed many of the city’s abandoned places, including the Divine Lorraine, Gretz Brewery and the Willow Steam Plant. He’ll talk about how those years of urban exploration led him to create a website dedicated to Philadelphia history and architecture, the paradox of revealing hidden places and the possibilities of genuine discovery that persist even as the city becomes visible thanks to smart phones and social media
About the speaker
Peter Woodall is a former newspaper reporter and producer for public radio. He co-founded the website Hidden City Daily and is the director of its parent organization, Hidden City Philadelphia. He's the co-author of Philadelphia: Finding the Hidden City.
