About the speaker
For 🏳️🌈 people, by 🏳️🌈 people! On December 15th, Aino Mättö and Veera Hatakka from Näkymä, an online platform dedicated to LGBTIQ* stories, grace the CreativeMornings/Helsinki stage. Theme of the month: PAIN.
Now encompassing emotions of all sorts, Näkymä started from a place of pain. Following their respective breakups, Veera and Aino noted how stories of separation were often shot through a heterosexual lens – and if queer narratives were to be found, they would most often be written by persons outside of the community or in English. The volunteer-run project has established itself as a cherished source of solidarity among its Finnish-speaking following.
How does it feel to hear your tale has touched another person’s heart? In the stories, where does the root of the pain lie – the individual or, rather, how they are seen and treated in society? Nourish your tummy ’n’ soul with breakfast at 8:15 am + the talk at 9 am sharp. It pains us to be apart, so make your way to the Design Museum, darlings!
Media producer, entrepreneur, bonus parent: Aino is all this and more. With a study background in filmmaking, Aino’s creativity stems from life being in constant flux. In the realm of Näkymä, Aino feels proud of the impact made, for instance through the piece written by Eeva Putro, screenwriter of the film Tove.
The Finnish language is Veera’s forte, as evidenced by their work as a doctoral researcher and university instructor. Veera’s creative artistry comes alive in all forms of writing and crocheting. The folk dance enthusiast never ceases to find delight in Näkymä readers’ eager responses to the stories made visible.
