About the speaker
Make your way to the Design Museum on 10 June at 8:30 am to hear from the creators of FEW magazine, Tino Nyman and Marina Veziko, and their take on the latest CreativeMornings theme, Now!
With each issue focusing on a Finnish minority, FEW magazine is the work of Tino and Marina, along with a creative crew of collaborators. FEW is born out of the desire to offer alternatives to one-sided, worn-out representations of minorities – mostly portrayed by creators from outside of the community in question. Recently having won two categories in Grafia’s Vuoden Huiput 2022 competition, the magazine offers insight into each minority from within, with hopes of sparking conversation and a genuine interest to know more. The first issue centers on Roma people.
All things visual are the realm of Tino Nyman, who focuses on different aspects of branding, including graphic design and creative direction. Tino, who is of a Roma background, had long dreamt of creating a publication that gives more of a voice to Roma people. Little did he know years back that a part of the vision would come to life, in collaboration with…
…Marina Veziko, who not only shared a workplace with Tino but also a passion for visual storytelling and nuanced typography. With ample experience as a graphic designer and art director, Marina is no stranger to designing visual identities for brands, with the end product ranging from packaging to a digital app, not to forget a more holistic set of touchpoints.
What fuels such an extensive passion project, done in addition to the freelancer duo’s day jobs? How might members of a discriminated minority react to a publication started from scratch? Join the talk to delve into the need for better representation, the creative process that led to FEW, plus more!
