About the speaker

Mona Pittenger enjoyed a successful career as sole owner of a real estate company specializing in the management and sale of government foreclosures. Her company liquidated over 40,000 homes for HUD before she retired from business in 2011.

She now identifies as a LGBT activist and philanthropist. She founded a public foundation in 2004. In 2007, she co-founded the Tulsa Girl’s Art School, a non-profit organization serving under privileged girls living in the inner city. She has served on the national boards of Lambda Legal and Victory Fund. She currently is on the national board of Freedom for All Americans. She is a founding board member of Our Fund, an LGBT Community Foundation in Fort Lauderdale and is a member of the Board of Trustees for Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa.

Mona is a fourth generation Oklahoman and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BBA in Finance. In 2014, she completed a M.A. in Spiritual Psychology with an emphasis in Consciousness, Health and Healing from the University of Santa Monica. In 2013, she authored and published a book of poetry titled Inspired Simplicity. She is the Co-Executive Producer of Just Gender, a documentary about the myths and misconceptions of the transgender community.. She was awarded the Alan Schubert Humanitarian Award in 2010. In 2014, she was selected as 100 Women with Moxie by the YWCA as it celebrated its 100th year eliminating racism and empowering women in Tulsa. Mona calls Fort Lauderdale home.
