Mila talks on Transparency
About the speaker
Mila Sanina is the executive director of PublicSource, a leading investigative news organization, providing Pennsylvania citizens with in-depth information. Previously, she was the deputy managing editor at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where she led innovation in storytelling and worked on integration of print and online operations, she edited stories, occasionally fixed typos, read online comments on post-gazette.com (yep!) and fought with its CMS. At the PG, she was a co-creator of The Digs, the project that gave a new life to the old photos never digitized before. Prior to joining the Post-Gazette, Mila worked at The PBS Newshour exactly at the time when the Arab Spring began, gathering information from Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt, and before that, at CNN International, where she was an assignment editor at the international desk, the job that involved working with 26 international bureaus, gathering stories and coordinating the supply of content from all over the world to CNN’s US shows. Mila was born in the Soviet Union and grew up in the independent country of Kazakhstan, but Pittsburgh owns her heart. “It’s a perfect place for journalists. The city is full of characters and surprises… and most importantly, it appreciates a good story”. Mila holds a master’s degree from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh.
