On Friday, November 3, hundreds of creative Charlotteans convened at Warehouse 242 to hear professor + publisher + podcaster Mark Peres tackle our global theme of “Death.” Mark certainly didn’t fear the reaper, opting to face the menacing theme head-on…the result being a fascinating and meditative talk about our search for meaning within these creative lives of ours. The entire morning walked a death-defying tightrope between personal and philosophical, joyous and jarring, hilarious and heartbreaking.

About the speaker

Mark Peres is a professor of leadership at Johnson & Wales University. He teaches courses on ethics and moral philosophy. He is the host of 'On Life and Meaning', a podcast that explores our lives and work. The mission of the podcast is to inspire a more insightful and humane world. He is the founder and former editor of Charlotte Viewpoint, an online magazine about city life and culture. Mark has had previous careers in law and business. He is a graduate of The Florida State University College of Law and of Rollins College, where he studied history and philosophy of religion.
