Marissa and Clay Carlisle

Co-owners and husband-and-wife duo Clay and Marissa Carlisle opened Bevi Bene Brewing Co. in June 2022 in the heart of Charleston’s brewery district. Bringing together their passions for the outdoors, entrepreneurship and living well, Bevi Bene is Charleston’s first authentic lager and hard kombucha brewery.

Hailing from a family of restaurant entrepreneurs in upstate New York, Marissa met her now-husband Clay, a Charlotte, N.C. native, while attending Coastal Carolina University. Clay and Marissa then moved to Golden, C.O. where they traveled all over the country, hiking and visiting breweries. Inspired by the belief the industry was lacking in traditional style lagers, something Clay enjoyed and knew he could create, the couple made the move to Asheville, N.C. where Clay continued to study brewing, working at some of Asheville’s top breweries. Clay and Marissa welcomed their first daughter in 2019 and decided to settle in Charleston to be closer to family, near the ocean and with hopes of bringing their passion for brewing to life.

As owners of Bevi Bene Brewing Co., Clay and Marissa are responsible for ideating and brewing Bevi Bene’s menu of lagers, hard kombuchas and sours, as well as day-to-day operations of the taproom. As a brewer, Clay brings his expertise and passion to their product, while Marissa’s eye for design translates into the clean and chic, modern taproom featuring a plant wall, plush furniture with neutral tones and an expansive and a well-designed patio.

Clay and Marissa reside in Mount Pleasant with their two daughters, Olive and Wallace. In addition to Bevi Bene, they keep life vibrant but simple by traveling with their daughters, visiting with family, exploring Charleston’s newest restaurants and cooking at home.
