About the speaker
Mamatha Rai is the Founder President of Kadike Trust. With a background as Lecturer & HOD, Computer Science Dept. at St. Philomena College Puttur for 8 years, she now works full time and manages day to day affairs of the Trust. The objectives of the Trust is to nurture sustainable rural livelihoods and to document indigenous knowledge.
“Udupi Saree Revival” project was initiated by the Kadike Trust in 2018 to revive the local GI tagged weaving known as Udupi Saree practiced in DK and Udupi districts of Karnataka. The Udupi Saree weaving turned from the path of extinction under her effort and guidance.
Mamatha also takes keen interest in growing climate tolerant plants like edible weeds, root vegetables etc., and has inspired a few people to start simple and eco-conscious living, gardening, home cooking and using handmades.
Accolades:
- Received DH change makers award 2021 by Deccan Herald along with 20 achievers.
- Recipient of first International Scholarship for Guilded natural dye education by Mamie’s School House, Cape Brenton Island, Canada
Other activities:
Conducted Diagnostic Study with SWOT and future intervention for Udupi Saree for VTPC along with B C Shetty.
