Comfort media and how to do horror in minimalist, mimed, improvised theatre
About the speaker
Malcolm Morrison is an PÅneke/Wellington based improviser with a long career of creating interesting shows.
He started performing in 2010 as a founding member the the Otepoti/Dunedin improv troupe, Improsaurus, which is still running to this day. With over 30 unique shows to his name, Malcolm has recently been working with the online comedy group, Bucket Hutt, while developing shows to take on tour.
His latest show - the 1950's movie inspired, improvised horror-comedy play titled 'It Came From Beyond The Script' - developed open source tools for other performers, met with reviewer acclaim, and has been picked up by Impro Queensland to be performed as one of their regular shows.
Malcolm specialises in narrative based improvised theatre, is a genre nerd, and teaches world-building. Additionally, he is the two-time award winner of the NZ Improv Festival's Top Teacher award and works a day job as a Manager in Government while not using his PhD in Physics.
Malcolm believes that all artists chase delight. There is so much joy in creating a special, wholly unique experience to an audience.
This talk will be about how that was achieved in the most recent horror show.
