Julia Karrys speaks on the theme of Soft at Sunshine Sunflower Studios in Phoenix, AZ
About the speaker
Julia Karrys is a ceramic sculptor, writer, and art therapist based in Arizona. She holds a BA in Creative Writing and an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and her practice bridges visual art and therapeutic work to explore grief, resilience, and identity.
Her first poetry collection, Death Do Us Part: A Collection of Poetry, weaves together her writing with imagery from generations of women in her family—including photography, handmade paper, and Greek poetry by her great-grandmother. The book inspired High Fire, her solo exhibition of ceramic masks and sculptural forms. Her upcoming second collection, Maiden Name, continues this interdisciplinary approach, reflecting on womanhood, lineage, and the reshaping of identity.
Karrys’s sculpture has been exhibited internationally, including the SEA(S) International Art Exhibit in Kefalonia, Greece, and was recently selected as a finalist for ISSUE19 of Al-Tiba9 Print Magazine, curated by Al-Tiba9 Contemporary Art Gallery in Barcelona. She was also recently selected as a featured artist for Visual Art Journal, and her work will be presented on a billboard in Times Square, New York.
