From borrowed rooftops to feeding cities: revolutionizing urban farming in Asia’s concrete jungle

About the speaker

Jessica began her career in Hong Kong's fast-paced F&B industry, where she became deeply concerned about the environmental impact of food imports, including waste from spoiled produce, excessive carbon emissions from flying in fresh food, and the lack of transparency in the use of herbicides and pesticides.

Determined to create a solution, she founded Common Farms, Hong Kong's first soil-based indoor vertical farm. Starting small—with borrowed rooftops and a 300 sq. ft. space on Cheung Chau—Jessica grew the business into a 10,000 sq. ft. farm in the heart of Hong Kong Island, now supplying over 60 restaurants and hotels across Hong Kong and Macau.

Jessica’s vision is to empower Hong Kong to grow its own food supply, paving the way for a more sustainable future for dense urban centers around the world.
