Jax Allen delivers a talk on cacao and Mother Earth
April 24, 8:00am - 9:00am BST. Hosted at Zoom
part of a series on Purpose
About the speaker
For as long as I can remember, I have felt a deep connection with Mother Earth, her plants and animals, stones and living waters. I have always experienced myself as a part of, not separate from her. So this evolved into a fascination with biology, both as a scientific study, and way of thinking and conceptualising, but also as a way of being.
Coming from an academic background in Zoology as a young adult, I later trained and worked for a number of years as a childbirth doula and then as a psychotherapeutic/ psychospiritual counsellor and shamanic practitioner. I could bring my understanding of humans as part of the animal kingdom, with our innate needs to connect with our instinctual, natural selves as a foundation for these practices.
Fifteen years ago, I was fortunate in being introduced to the use of the master plant spirit teachers and this was a deeply illuminating and life changing experience for me, as it is for many others who have had the opportunity to commune with these plants in a ceremonial context. I could see for myself the far-reaching benefits of connecting with these wise beings, gifts to humans from Mother Earth.
They guided me to work in particular with one of them- the spirit of cacao- the only one that is left legally free for us to use in this way (they can’t ban chocolate!) a few years ago. So I started to take ceremonial grade cacao regularly, both as a health-enhancing addition to my diet and as a ceremonial sacrament.
This led me to being apprenticed and then working as a cacaoista (someone who facilitates for others the connection to the spirit of the cacao plant). The benefits of this are wonderful- cacao is a beautiful gentle but powerful heart-opening “medicine” in the original sense of the word- as something that helps us come towards out whole-ness of being, re-membering us with our body-minds’ innate self-healing abilities.
So it is my greatest pleasure to offer cacao and the connection to her spirit to others, so that they too may experience the benefits that I have enjoyed.
