Our rule number one is to take pleasure in what we do.

I’ve quit jobs that didn’t feel meaningful. We should think carefully how we spend our precious TIME.

Janne Kareinen and a group of others created a small revolution in and around the area they live, Arabianranta. Neighbourhood associations are typically a bunch of exhausted, bitter NIMBYs but they created a model where a number of active groups drive changes and create events for themselves.

-You have to divide responsibility and power. You really have to hand it over to others and not try and control. When individual groups do stuff they enjoy things actually move forward and people don’t end up burned out and bitter.

Others were impressed by their ideas and Janne has since done mentoring for different neighbourhoods in Helsinki, other parts of Finland and even Tallinn.
