About the speaker
Jami Curl is the author of Candy is Magic and the founder of QUIN – a small batch, handmade candy company headquartered in Portland. She loves working with sugar, exploring the magic of candy and telling the perfect story.
In addition to creating QUIN’s recipes, Jami leads a team of candy makers, customer service staff and wholesale specialists to provide retail partners across the country with a variety of QUIN specialties.
Recently named one of Fast Company magazine’s 100 most creative people in food, Jami’s work has been featured in Bon Appetite, Food + Wine, Gourmet, Good Housekeeping, Real Simple, Martha Stewart, Martha Stewart Weddings, Sunset, O Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and more.
Throughout her career she has appeared on stage and screen sharing with others her tips and tricks for operating a small business, creating a loyal brand following, whipping up the perfect dessert and capturing the essence of fresh fruit in candy.

But what if you did imagine that you could find inspiration in weird places or that human connections can lead you to your next big idea?
If you disregard your assumptions about mostly everything and approached your existence more open-minded, that would help you give in and seek out and information to get you on a path.
Why don't we just start with our own ideas? Why do we have to use the internet to get ideas? . . . I don't want to do that. I want to make it up. I want to start from the beginning and do it ourselves.
Honesty and truly and with my whole sense of being that I approach life with this sense of wonder, and candy taught me that because of the limitless potential that it has.
