From an old barge to a thriving cultural hub — Robin Lybeck shares how DIY spirit, situational innovation, and community collaboration turned Kulttuurilaiva into a joyful space for creativity, culture, and connection.
About the speaker
Robin Lybeck is a university researcher, teacher, and public participation expert with a background in urban sociology, and a founding member of Kulttuurilaiva, a DIY cultural venue and riverboat in Porvoo that serves both as a vibrant live-music space and a unique artist residence by the river.
His work with Kulttuurilaiva builds on the cultural work started by his father and reflects his long-standing commitment to accessible, community-driven culture and experimental forms of participation.
Drawing on over 16 years of experience in NGO:s relating to participation, culture, human rights, environmental activism, art, and dialogues, Lybeck will speak on the social innovation that can emerge only in places where social control and norms are free to be renegotiated and experimented with, and community can flourish as a form of resistance.
