About the speaker

Cynthia Cheng and Maxime Vanhollebeke are the founders of Hong Kong Shifts, a social impact storytelling platform. Its mission is to promote kindness, empathy and inclusiveness in our living and working communities through authentic storytelling. The platform puts the spotlight on shift workers - individuals working discreetly in the background who are often overlooked or taken for granted. Hong Kong Shifts also works with NGOs, social enterprises, schools, community partners and corporates on human-centred visual storytelling campaigns, events, pop-up exhibitions and workshops.

Cynthia was born in Canada and grew up in Hong Kong. Prior to pursuing a career in writing, social impact and mental health, Cynthia was a practising lawyer for 8 years in London, Abu Dhabi and HK. Maxime is originally from Belgium and has lived in London and Chicago before settling in HK in 2009 to pursue a career as an international lawyer. Maxime splits his time between legal consulting and building Hong Kong Shifts.
