Gerhard Jäger

About the speaker

Gerhard Jäger was born in 1956 in Graz, Austria, and has worked for 15 years in the Serapions Theatre in Vienna.

From 1990 until 1995 he was involved in cultural projects in the South of Austria near the Slovenian border.

Seventeen years ago, Jäger started ABC (ART BASICS for CHILDREN) in Brussels, where he is currently the artistic coordinator.

ART BASICS for CHILDREN is a non-profit organization located in Brussels, which is operating on the border of the arts and education as a labor for aesthetic experiences and awareness. It creates stimulating environments and projects that encourage children and adults of all ages to experiment with their imagination and to explore their creative potential.

Or, in the words of BRUZZ magazine, ABC is ‘a place where children can play as a way to learn, and adults can learn again how to play’.

Interactive working-stations are equipped with selected books, visuals and specific research materials. Their well-defined settings enable small groups of visitors to explore and investigate at ease and in confidence and to develop independently their own way to integrate art in their daily life.

At CreativeMornings Brussels, Gerhard will present the motivation, inspiration and working philosophy at ABC, and will also share his thoughts about the art of teaching which enables creativity, while staying true to serendipity and to the sense of wonder.
