Abracadabra! A personal exploration of magick, mysticism, and spiritualtiy brought to life through art installation
Magic - It’s something amazing. It can be unexpected, and it’s usually perplexing. It can be synonymous with luck. But what is it really?
As artists and designers, we often try to conjure magic within our work. We all put the proverbial paintbrush to canvas and strive to turn an idea or image into something more. We are always pushing for humble medium - paint, ink, light, sound - to transcend itself, transform and inspire. In the best work, it usually does. Other times, things fall flat despite our best efforts. So how do we capture this magic that creates amazing artwork or experiences? How can we reproduce the effects? Is it even possible to control?
Local artist, Gabe Michael Kenney, will join us to share his personal thoughts, experiences, and theories about the theme Magic. Gabe is a Columbus-based artist, researcher and activist, and self-described ‘true explorer at heart’. He focuses on conceptual art and printmaking, and his recent work studies the intersections of art, science, and mathematics. He will tell us more about the magic he has found at the junction of structured and unstructured, the measured and the unbound.
