Frédéric Nicolay shares his story on the urban transformation of Brussels.

About the speaker

Brussels entrepreneur Frederic Nicolay is well-known for creating convivial spaces in the city, for the past 20 years.

First came the restaurants Chez Marie and Bonsoir Clara, and then also bars and cafes: Belga in Flagey; Mappa Mundo, Zébra, Le Roi des Belges in Saint Gery; Walvis, Barbeton, La Belle Équipe and the Jazz Café Bravo in the Dansaert area, Potemkine at Porte de Halle, Flamingo at Laeken street and several other collaborations.

The projects are initially set in less privileged areas of Brussels’ central neighborhoods, and Mr. Nicolay is convinced that a good-looking, friendly cafe will bring out the best in any urban neighborhood.

Fréderic has an uncanny instinct for finding neglected spots, giving them an atmospheric look and ‘launching’ them. The projects are initially set in less privileged areas of Brussels’ central neighborhoods, and Fréderic is convinced that a good-looking, friendly cafe will bring out the best in any urban neighborhood. His work has stimulated the transformation of these neighborhoods in the heart of the city, where a positive trend can be now seen: renovation projects, more businesses and new residents moving in, a higher quality of life.

Besides his interior design expertise, Fréderic has significant strategy, marketing, and communication experience, which he grew through the creation and successful promotion of the brand image of the “VEDETT” beer. In the beginning of his career he has been a chef in top restaurants in New York, London, Florence, and eventually Brussels. More recently, he has also launched a new brand of organic chocolate-flavoured milk drink called “Bolbu”.

At CreativeMornings Brussels, Mr. Nicolay will share his story of urban transformation.

Exceptionally for this edition, the talk will be in French - as the preference of our speaker.
