About the speaker

Arshiya Bose completed her PhD from the University of Cambridge, U.K. in 2014, on environment and development issues in Kodagu district, Karnataka, India. Her research focuses on dynamics of landscape change in coffee regions and perceptions of coffee producers towards biodiversity conservation. At present, Arshiya is developing an impact-oriented research project with coffee growers in Kodagu. While this is currently still exploratory, the core idea is to conduct research with the explicit aim of policy advocacy and/or implementing a pilot project that could address biodiversity threats and livelihood concerns. Arshiya’s current work attempts to use a multi-disciplinary research approach to generate innovative solutions that can address biodiversity threats from intensive coffee production. Gaia’s Cup is an outcome of this research.
