Locus Genious Loci and other unknown words

How context can be seen in architecture? Christina in her talk, shows her interpretation of context through different concepts like spirit of the place or genious loci and memories. Context has different manifestations through physical and non - physical elements. Through this presentation, we can see the importance of non-physical elements like collective memory, which is depicted around us in the context we co-exist.

About the speaker

Christina Serifi is an architect, researcher and urbanist. She has graduated with distinction from the Urban Design Master’s program at the City College of New York and holds a professional degree as an architect engineer from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. She is also principal researcher in Terreform, a New York based Center for Advanced Urban Studies where she has coordinated various publications regrading indigenous knowledge, alternative educational models and self sufficiency. She has worked on urban design and architectural projects in Greece, Portugal, United States, Ecuador and Netherlands. Her work investigates the forms, policies, technologies and local practices, and focuses on urban fragments, in-between spaces, as well as osculation of architectural and social space, Christina has awarded with the Fulbright fellowship and Urban Design Award ’14 from CCNY.
