About the speaker

Céleste C. L. Wackenhut is Curator at French & Michigan in San Antonio, Texas. She oversees F&M’s nonprofit branch dedicated to the research of contemporary art and design and its publication program. Recent books and exhibitions organized at F&M include Evelyn Gonzalez: Of Bodies Straining to See (2021) and Jennifer Ling Datchuk: Half (2019).

Before F&M, Wackenhut worked at the McNay Art Museum, San Antonio, as the Semmes Foundation Intern in Museum Studies, and subsequently as the Curatorial/Communications Assistant. At the McNay, she collaborated on catalogues and exhibitions including Estampas de la Raza: Contemporary Prints from the Romo Collection (2012) and Andy Warhol: Fame and Misfortune (2011).

Prior to her position at the McNay, Wackenhut participated in internship programs and held posts at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh; Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice; and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Amherst. Wackenhut received a Masters in Modern Art from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and a Bachelors in Art History and Italian Studies from Sweet Briar College, Virginia. She currently serves as President of Sweet Briar College’s Friends of Art.
