You Don’t Know Where You’re Going If You Don’t Know Where You’re From

In this talk, Cara Sabin — strength coach, former professional dancer, and lifelong mover — shares the lessons she’s gathered from 14 years of coaching people through their personal journeys. Drawing from her own story of starting dance at 17, performing with a contemporary dance company, and building a community-based gym, Cara explores what it truly takes to keep showing up. She breaks down three keys to making moves on any path — finding your people, recognizing your resilience, and returning to your roots — and shows how the habits we build in movement translate to creativity, relationships, and life. Whether you’re just beginning or finding your footing again, this talk is an invitation to remember who you are, trust the process, and let the journey be the destination.

About the speaker

Cara combines art with athletics pulling from almost two decades as a professional dancer in Chicago. She has taught and performed nationally and internationally as a member of The Seldoms and found strength training while looking for a smarter way to cross-train for her dance career. Her first CrossFit experience—which happened to be on a first date—left her rethinking everything she’d ever known about functional fitness.

Cara believes that health is happiness and became a coach to share the impact that community and movement can have on the quality of our lives. Teaching is her love, and it allows her to help people connect with their bodies and capabilities, both in and outside of the gym. Cara is Defined Training's Head Coach, General Manager, and co-founder of The Lunge Ladies, LLC, an all-female strength training collective.
