Brian Jacobson

A writer and photographer with a boundless love for Milwaukee, Brian Jacobson comes from an ancestral line of Wisconsin farmers in the Town of Norway.

His journalistic career — spanning numerous essays, reportage, and editing — has included work for WTMJ4, The Journal-Sentinel, The Onion, Journal Times, Third Coast Digest, OnMilwaukee and Urban Milwaukee. His artistic pursuits in photography include a host of gallery and museum shows alongside being a founding member of the Coalition of Photographic Arts (CoPA). Currently, Brian works as a Research Specialist for Bon-Ton and enjoys traveling and photographing the backroads and small towns of Wisconsin.

Brian’s fascination with historical accounts and mysteries in Milwaukee stem chiefly from reading archaic news articles and texts, but other-times from observing a space and wondering how some object got there or why it is no longer present. Having investigated a number of missing artifacts and forgotten places in Milwaukee’s history, his last active project was called “Vantage Point,” a photographic essay series for Urban Milwaukee in which Brian gained access to the rooftops of iconic buildings to replicate famous historical views taken from the same locations.
