Brian Holoubek chronicles the humble beginnings and rebelious spread of the T-shirt from undergarment to international cultural icon.
About the speaker
Brian Holoubek was born and raised in rural Wisconsin. Son of farmer, inventor and t-shirt printer Verne Holoubek, his early life was split between life on the farm and selling t-shirts with the family business. Brian Holoubek completed his BFA from Syracuse University, in upstate New York.
His professional career started in San Francisco during the tech-boom of the late 90's. From there, he transitioned to Brooklyn, New York in 2000. While designing and coding his way through 5 years in New York, he began selling vintage iron-ons and t-shirts to shops in the Lower East Side. This was the beginning of Heavy Rotation, a lifestyle brand with the mission of spreading artwork around the world by way of t-shirts. Over the last decade plus, Heavy Rotation has rode the wave of our economy and continues to make USA-made clothing with national and international distribution.
Brian, and his wife Natalie Streppone-Holoubek live, work and raise their two kids in the fine city of Milwaukee. In 2007, they started the Urban Garage Sale, an annual Milwaukee “shop-local” event. The Urban Garage Sale focuses on bringing Milwaukee together to support local artists, makers and shops.
