About the speaker

Born and raised in France, Arnault Castel founded Kapok in 2006 as an antidote to the perceived blandness of the Hong Kong retail scene. After a decade, kapok maintains its reputation as the purveyor of emerging brands and high-quality design products in Hong Kong and Singapore, where the brand has a network of 10 stores.

Arnault has developed an extensive knowledge and understanding of the Asian consumer goods and retail environment since 1996, when he moved to Hong Kong. In 2001, he joined the team in charge of the development of the Lomography brand in Asia as the head of southeast Asian operations.

In 2005, he also founded Working Unit Limited, which was the exclusive distributor for the Moleskine brand in Asia. Working unit now distributes notable lifestyle brands in the region, including Daniel Wellington, Olivia Burton, Bellroy, Rains and Sandqvist.

Having pioneered the select shop movement in Hong Kong, Arnault continues to bring freshness to a market saturated with mass and luxury fashion with his keen eye for creativity and strong belief in supporting new designers.
