“What is the gift that you want to give, that we want to give?”

Allen Christian, founder and artist at the House of Balls, talks about working in community, creating the world we all want to live in together, and reevaluating the materials all around us.

About the speaker

Allen Christian is a Minneapolis artist whose sexy nude won a blue ribbon at this year’s Minnesota State Fair. His gallery and studio, the House of Balls regularly attracts national, and international media attention.

Michelangelo might take marble from the quarries of Carrara. Sculptor Allen Christian taps the veins of our throw away culture, mining the way-backs of closets, the rafters of old barns, and the insides of free-for-the-taking pianos. For three decades Christian has used whatever was at hand for his figurative work: pots & pans, globes, wrenches, doll parts, and light fixtures scavenged from big-box store renovations. He employs manikins, milking canisters, farm tools, mid-century medical devices, and most famously - bowling balls.
