Ba Samory

As we prepare for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, we are excited to welcome performer Samory Ba. He will share his insights on trust and how he launched a contemporary skating company, redefining the realms of dance, choreography, and performance.

Let’s welcome Samory Ba!

Samory, a French skater and choreographer with Senegalese roots, has always been fascinated by the choreographic possibilities of skating. After performing professionally with several renowned ice show companies, he became one of the founding members of Le Patin Libre, an innovative collective pioneering a modern approach to ice skating. In 2014, they premiered Vertical Influences at the Dance Umbrella Festival in London, receiving rave reviews. They later created Threshold (2018) and Murmuration (2022), achieving international success and helping to democratise "contemporary" skating.

Samory has also collaborated with Paris-based skating-artist Oktawia Scibior, under the name Slippery Art Project. Together, they created the screendance Rêverie (2020) and recently completed Within A Thousand Suns (2024), a contemporary skating piece on roller skates.
