Marquis "Ten Thousand" Burton is a prolific writer, poet and educator from Buffalo, NY. After undergoing multiple life changes, he found the confidence to advocate for himself and others. For the past 13 years he has taught poetry workshops at Shea's Performing Arts Center, Gloria J. Parks Community Center, University at Buffalo, Sweet Home High School, SUNY Fredonia and various educational institutions and non-profit organizations. In 2015, he was a member of Pure Ink Poetry Slam Team who represented Buffalo at the National Poetry Slam in Oakland, CA. In 2016, he coached Pure Ink Poetry Slam Team to top 20 ranking at the National Poetry Slam in Decatur, GA. This past spring, he taught a 10-week youth poetry workshop at Gloria J. Parks Community Center which taught students from age 10 – 18 years of age how to discover their voices through poetry.
