Researcher/data-geek studying behavioral health topics who has become preachy about modern America's dire need for meaningful social connections.
I've been ravenously consuming any and all research/info about social connectedness, "social capital", community building, "third places", bonding & bridging, and structured conversations.
I need creative, thoughtful people who can help me figure out new, appealing ways that people can meaningfully connect (in-person) in the Age of Digital Distractions.
I'd tell you about research regarding social connectedness. Given how dramatically it affects pretty much every important human outcome (including even affecting our longevity as much or more than smoking), and given that we're living in quite possibly the loneliest and most isolated time and place in world history (e.g., 40% of Americans have zero close confidants), I hope by the end of my spiel you'd be persuaded that the most important task before us is to reweave/reinvent the social fabric.
