As a West Michigan artist, I’m fascinated with nature and architecture. I am especially interested in the rich historical architecture that we often take for granted in West Michigan. You can see some of my photographic artwork at http://douglas-schwentor.fineartamerica.com. My current interests include ink drawing, photography, and oil painting. I spent most of my life working as a social worker. I always wanted to be an artist, but put that dream on hold during my working years. I actually started majoring in art in college, but didn't think I could make a living at it. It was only a few years ago that I gave myself permission to pursue art again. Under Construction is my first oil painting in over 35 years. I'm especially interested in rendering architecture in a more abstract fashion.
After resuming my interest in art, I've been accepted into numerous Juried shows including the Regional Area Exhibit (past 4 years), ArtPrize (past 4 years), and and the Holland Area Arts Council MI Arts show. I've also had two solo exhibitions at the 602 gallery at Holland hospital. I'm currently working on two more paintings in the Under Construction series, and a large ink drawing for next year's ArtPrize.
