**Talk Title: 3D Art & Animation: A Hollywood Tale on Creative Depth**

When you watch a Pixar animated movie, it’s easy to get attached to the characters, right? Creative depth is a valuable quality to have as an animator. Animating is not just about making things move. It’s bringing a character to life.

Before my pencil even touches paper, I take some time to analyse my subject. Being aware of the facts and information about the scene is good… but go deeper! I act out in front of a mirror, study reference shots, re-watch movies and TV shows, and immerse myself in the story. I try to find purpose for every move, every pose and every facial expression.

This applies to the world beyond animation. You may notice things that are overlooked by others. You may find joy in mundane tasks. Over time, this in-depth approach will teach you to see the world differently!

Every time we gather, there’s potential for transformation. Why? Because connections spark change, and the need for change has never been so critical. Still, it’s easy to sleepwalk our way through meetings, think the birthday cake will make that birth-day memorable, and that renting the right room with a great speaker will make an event that will make a difference. We are missing out!

No agenda, no fancy cheese tray, no perfect venue will save your gathering unless it’s grounded in a purpose that has  fire– something that ignites everything else and everyone in the room. It’s the spark, the guiding light, the possibility for change. Put the purpose firmly in the middle of your gathering plan, spark it up, and make those critical connections. Register here: https://creativemornings.com/talks/cate-friesen-it-s-critical-to-fire-up-creative-connection

MEET OUR SPEAKER!

Hi, I’m Cate Friesen, the force behind The Story Source. Connection drives all the work I do. I coach and train people to discover and tell the stories that will move their own work forward through connection. I do my work primarily in groups. That makes facilitation—which is really all about connection—integral to my work.

When I launched The Story Source, I knew I wanted to work with people who were intent on growing their own capacity and increasing the impact of their. People like you, making a difference where you are.

I pulled together all the skills and experiences I could muster – as an entrepreneur, award-winning CBC producer, songwriter and storyteller, documentary maker, performer and leader. No, I didn’t have it all together, but the way unfolded with every new project, workshop, and opportunity to work with committed leaders, community movers and shakers, and entrepreneurs.

The people I work with hone their storytelling and listening skills so they can deepen their abilities to connect, communicate, and call others to action. Some use these skills to build teams, some to grow stronger communities. Others apply these skills on all kinds of stages (real and metaphorical!) to connect authentically and memorably with their audiences.

Through all the turns I’ve taken, I’ve kept learning. Most of that learning happens right on the job – nothing replaces the school of life – but I’ve taken courses in how adults learn, studied Public Narrative with Marshall Ganz through Harvard Kennedy School, continue to attend reconciliation workshops with Returning to Spirit, and recently completed a course called “Hosting Powerful Conversations: Intro to World Cafe & Open Space Tech” at Simon Fraser University.

Connection. Engagement. Story and capacity. That’s my jam.

“TUNING INTO YOUR CREATIVE NOW”

Life is busy and full and many people can’t recall what they did in a
day. When this pattern continues for weeks, months, or years, it’s not
unusual to feel ungrounded, tangled up and unhappy. None of that
supports a creative life or practice. Kerri will share three techniques
to help you experience the creative nowness of your life – while
building three mindfulness skills – concentration, sensory clarity, and equanimity that support happiness and improved creativity.

CreativeMornings – Global Theme for May 2022

These days, the “nows” hurry past us, shoved aside by the “next” — the urgent to-do’s, the latest breaking news. Constantly anticipating and staging for our future decimates our experience of the present. Our “now” vanishes, like water flowing through our fingertips.

We cannot keep time from spilling out of our hands and into the soft earth below. It is not our task to master the present, but to savor it. To pause. Go still. Feel the air on the back of our necks, sit in both discomfort and pleasure, and marvel in the radiance of the present moment. So that we may, in the poet William Blake’s words, “Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand / And Eternity in an hour.” For all we ever have is now.

Our Buffalo chapter chose this month’s exploration of Now, Mizin Shin illustrated the theme, and our global partner Mailchimp is presenting the theme.

CM/WPG is thrilled to be joined by Amanda Buhse as our speaker for April 2022!

The CreativeMornings Global Theme for March is FOLKLORE! Join us on March 18, 2022 at CreativeMornings Winnipeg to explore and celebrate the ways that our cultural and family stories become mythic in nature.

A song about the origin of the world, a pot of simmering stew that draws the community to the table, a knot of ribbon in your hand. All of these moments and rituals bind us to our ancestors, our past to our future. Our collective and ancient wisdom is contained in folklore, we must simply look there.

Our Guatemala City chapter chose this month’s exploration of Folklore and Sara Ortega illustrated the theme.

OUR FEATURED MUSICIAN: SIERRA NOBLE

Entering the music industry at a young age can have profound effects on an artist’s personal and professional journey, and Sierra Noble knows this well. The Winnipeg singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, released their first album of traditional Métis fiddle music as a teenager, followed by the well-received Possibilities, and later, City of Ghosts. Over the course of these albums Noble honed their skills as a songwriter while garnering widespread attention, which led them to opening for Paul McCartney, Bon Jovi, and Johnny Reid, and as a featured performer for the 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony. Noble’s original music has been included in TV shows such as One Tree Hill, Switched at Birth, and Parenthood, and in films such as CBC’s Humboldt: The New Season, 40 Weeks, and Fostering Hope.

“Let Me Out of Here” is the first single from the new Sierra Noble. In its crystalline melodies and epic poise, Noble sings of smiling through teeth in response to the unwelcomed opinions and judgments of others. But they know what they need – freedom to follow their path and be released from all that’s kept them down – and the song’s title is their powerful declaration of that.

Making Monumental Change: One T-Shirt at a Time (Speaker: Sean Rayland)

Join us on February 25, 2022 at 8:15am for a Monumental Event! *ASL interpretation available at all our events.

Meet our February 2022 CreativeMornings Winnipeg speaker: Sean Rayland!

Boozhoo Nii Bow Sabe Indizinikaaz Migizii Indodem.I said my name is Standing Sasquatch Man and I am from the Eagle Clan.I am an ex gang member, addict, recent graduate from RRC Polytech and the owner of Red Rebel Armour an Indigenous led social enterprise selling authentic Anishinaabe streetwear to fund our social purpose which is a recidivism diversion strategy. In addition to providing employment, we have incorporated Indigenous ways of knowing throughout the organization. This means we reshaped the workplace and incorporated an Indigenous worldview in everything we do.

February’s Global CreativeMornings Theme is Monumental.

When we call something monumental, we mean it as a matter of scale. Societies erect statues and build squares and dedicate memorials to prevent the past from being buried. It can also mean “great in importance, extent or size” and “to make a permanent record of.” What will you bear witness to? What will you leave behind when you’re gone?

Our Richmond chapter chose this month’s exploration of Monumental and Mending Walls to illustrate the theme.

December 2021: CreativeMornings Global Theme is INVISIBLE!

The invisible encompasses everything that does not fall within the hegemony of visibility. An entire world we cannot see exists but doesn’t show itself. From the electromagnetism coursing around us, to the flow of capital across borders, to the adaptive strategies of wildlife. How might we become aware of the things that have receded from sight, suddenly coming into focus with startling clarity?

Our Rome chapter chose this month’s exploration of Invisible and Cristina Spanó illustrated the theme.

Talk Title: Accessible creativity: Can you see me?

How can we consider ourselves creative people if what we create isn’t accessible to everyone? Disability and accessibility are topics that are invisible to most of us: if you aren’t disabled yourself, or don’t have a close relationship with a disabled person, you likely don’t realize how both the physical and digital worlds create barriers for the one in five Canadians who are disabled.

Join Ashleigh in December for a CreativeMornings Winnipeg presentation on how disability and accessibility are invisible to most of us — and what you can do to change that.
