About the speaker
Hello! My name is Zach Thomas. Some people call me Dr. Zach, some call me Dr. Z, but Iām most comfortable with Zach.
I have the pleasure of helping people reconnect to their innate ability to be healthy and fall back in love with their life. I get to do this as a practicing chiropractor at Reichert Family Chiropractic in Reynoldsburg, OH.
I was born and raised in Reynoldsburg, graduated from Reynoldsburg High School (back when there was only one), and am an alumni of The Ohio State University.
I have always been an active person. Growing up I played sports, but once I started college I transitioned from organized sports to exercise and weight training. In my early twenties that turned into me being a full time personal trainer while finishing my undergraduate degree.
During that time I experienced a major event that would change the course of my life. While weight training on November 11th, 2011 I herniated two discās in my lower spine at the age of 22. The next 10 days would consist of me laying on my best friends parents living room floor, consuming pain medication, and muscle relaxers.
Thankfully, I had (and still have) good people in my life to help me through this experience. Those people helping me realize those medications were acting as a crutch, and others showing me what I needed to do to begin to heal. One of those things was going to see a chiropractor for the first time.
In honesty, I was young and very stubborn. I did not think I needed to go to a chiropractor. I knew nothing about it and had never known anyone that went to one. So, I did not go⦠until a year later.
A year later I had another experience with my back. That time I was not taking any chances and I went to a chiropractor for the first time.
Dr. Stephanie Gudorf Schiff was my very first chiropractor. She saw me, she heard me, and she educated me on how amazing my body was at healing. I will NEVER forget the day I received my first adjustment. I walked out of that office clear for the first time in my life. My vision was more crisp, colors were brighter, and I just felt lighter.
It was this experience that led me to applying to chiropractic school, being accepted to chiropractic school, and eventually becoming a chiropractor.
Hereās the thing, I wasnāt 100% recovered, healed, or whatever you choose to call it after that visit. Actually, I didnāt fully heal after the first year of care. This may come as a shock to you, but I believe I did not truly heal from that November 11th experience for 6 years.
So many times when we start our healing journeys we want it to be instant (sometimes it can be), but most often it takes time.
For me, in those 6 years I was able to do all of the things I was able to do pre- herniated discās but there was always just a small piece hanging on.
The most healing experiences I have ever had in my life occurred on a chiropractic table getting adjusted or in the time after getting adjusted. At that 6 year mark, I was in the middle of getting adjusted when all of the sudden I said to myself āwhy have I waited so long? Zach, I love you.ā For the first time in my life, at 28 years old, I told myself that I loved myself.
In that moment there was a related. An emotional release in the form of tears and some kind of physical release. For the first time in 6 years I had zero discomfort in my lower back.
Interesting, yes?
The moment I allowed myself to acknowledge love for me I ceased to have ANY lower back pain.
You see, that 6 year journey began as a way to get rid of pain, but it hit the summit at healing. Healing ME! Releasing past events and experiences that were holding me back from living my life at the very best.
That day I experienced the healing I had been searching for those 6 years, but the journey did not end their. I continue to heal to this day so that I can continue to show up as the best version of myself and live to my fullest.
This is why I feel so honored to be a chiropractor. To help people through challenging times in their life, to show them they can heal, and to educate them on how incredibly brilliant their body is.
At the end of the day thatās the ājuiceā in life. Experiencing it all. The highs and the lows. The happy and the sad. The full spectrum of life is where LIFE is. I canāt wait to see you there!
