Your Host

Jean Blackwell Font

Creative Director / Owner at Font Squared / collaboARTive.

Miami

I’m a visual artist and experienced digital marketing pro. As an advocate for visual artists, I assist in bringing art and words from the real world into the digital realm. I am committed to building connection, creativity, and community through offering affordable studio space to artists, hosting art talks and workshops online and IRL, and creating opportunities for creative play.

About this FieldTrip

Join Warehouse 4726 in our “virtual studio” for an hour of creative play.

Now in it’s second year, Collage and Connect is not a how-to class, but an hour to commit to your own creativity. This event offers time to sit quietly, work new parts of your brain, and see things in a different way with people from across the globe.

We share ideas on how to start making something, tips on artists to look at for inspiration, other online workshops we’ve enjoyed, or we just work quietly, enjoying the sounds of tearing paper and quiet contemplation. Together we share an hour of collage making.

Sit with friends, or make some new ones

✨WHAT TO EXPECT

✔️ The event starts with a brief introduction to your host, Jean at [Warehouse 4726 in Miami](https://www.warehouse4726.com). She’ll explain why this event is so important to her and how everyone can contribute. She sets a theme for the collage as inspiration to get started.

✔️ Together we work on our collage pieces, with a little background music. Guests can mute their mics and turn off their videos if they like, but we find it is more sociable when we can see and hear each other. Throughout the event, we can answer questions about materials, techniques, and collage artists who inspire us.

✔️ With about 10 minutes left, we start sharing what we’ve made and talking about our ideas. Everyone is encouraged to share their work during the event and via Instagram by tagging us for social sharing.

about your host

Jean Blackwell Font is a visual artist and arts administrator in Miami FL - and part of the Miami CM Chapter team! 5 years ago, Jean and her husband founded an artist run studio space in Miami that provides affordable space and resources for artists. In July 2020, Jean suffered a traumatic injury that turned her world upside down - Collage and Connect was developed as a way for her to reconnect with her own creativity and joy. After having hosted 15 of these now, with guests from around the globe, she knows how valuable and healing it is to sit quietly for an hour in creative play.

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And…” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
