About the speaker

Vicky Holt Takamine is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and received her BA & MA in Dance Ethnology from the University of Hawai'i. In 1975, She graduated as kumu hula (master teacher of Hawaiian dance) from Maiki Aiu Lake. Vicky established her hālau hula (school of Hawaiian dance), Pua Ali‘i ‘Ilima in 1977 on the island of O’ahu. She has extensions of her hālau hula on the island of Kaua‘i and in New York City. Vicky is recognized as a native Hawaiian leader for role as an advocate for the protection of native Hawaiian rights, social justice issues and the protection of the natural and cultural resources of Hawai‘i. She is the co-founder and executive director of PA‘I Foundation, an arts organization that is established to preserve and perpetuate Hawaiian cultural traditions for future generations.
