About the speaker
I am the Cofounder & Chief Strategy Officer of ShearShare, the first on-demand salon and barbershop space rental app. We are enabling more than 1,000,000 licensed professionals to work on their terms and maximize their earnings potential, while salon and barbershop owners make money on unused space. Prior to creating ShearShare, I owned and operated an award-winning salon in Dallas, Texas, which was the genesis behind ShearShare. I have worked in beauty for nearly 3 decades as a master barber-stylist, educator, and small business coach. I serve on the Advisory Boards for multiple beauty schools and am a frequent guest lecturer at barber colleges and hairstyling institutes around the globe. I coach and mentor the next generation of salon and barbershop owners. My #1 best-selling book, Mentored by Failure: A 5-Point Guide to Long-Term Success in the Beauty & Style Industry, is often used for continuing education curriculum. ShearShare was the first Texas startup to win Google Demo Day 2018, Tech. Co’s Startup of the Year 2016, and was named a TechWeek100. My work has been featured in Fast Company, the New York Times, Black Enterprise, the Washington Post, Forbes, Modern Salon, and TechCrunch. I'm a licensed instructor and educator, and I have received my Doctorate of Professional Barbering from Miracle University. We relocated from McKinney, Texas, to Buffalo, New York, with my cofounder and wife, Courtney Caldwell. I enjoy international travel, reading, and spending time with family. I have a 22-year-old son, Trey, a senior cadet and football player at the United States Air Force Academy.
Fun fact: my wife and I recently summited Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa, in seven days.
