About this FieldTrip

Join us and make a zine as a container for contemplation around the question: how do you create a home in which art can survive? If you (like us) are intrigued by grocery lists, money diaries, and daily rituals as the backdrop for making art, this workshop is for you! Hosted by Lynnette and Krystiana of Circling Studios, this workshop invites participants to turn a mindful eye to the material objects that surround us and support our creative work.

Through this workshop, you will learn how to fold a mini zine from a sheet of paper, fill it with your ideas, and hopefully leave inspired to continue exploring what objects, tools, or rituals support and scaffold your artistic life.

✨WHAT TO EXPECT

✔️ Your facilitators will explain the concept of the zine-making activity as a container for contemplation, and why we are interested particularly in the unseen domestic scaffolding that supports the artist’s life.

✔️ We’ll demonstrate how to fold a zine from one sheet of paper. The only supplies you need for this workshop are paper (standard printer paper will do) and a writing utensil! - We’ll provide prompts for brainstorming activities to get you thinking.

✔️ Then, you will use the pages of your zine as a sketchbook or container for these ideas! Make a list, write a poem, doodle a picture.

✔️ Finally, you will have the option to share your work and hear from fellow attendees, as well as learn how to keep in touch and participate by contributing to a forthcoming collaborative zine.

✔️ Remember, this is an open-ended activity! Whether you come away with a completed zine or feel like you’re just beginning, we hope you leave inspired to consider how you make a home in which your art can survive.

🎒WHAT TO KNOW OR BRING

✔️ Paper (8.5x11 printer paper is fine), a writing utensil, and scissors

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And…” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
