Clubs can be recurring or drop-in and can range from hobbies and hang-outs, to skill-building and anything in between.
Salon of the Surreal
• – • Brooklyn, 11222
About this Club
A club to gather those who find comfort dwelling in the lucid lounge, café of mirrors, and hypnagogic halls. This is for the dreamers, artists, and thinkers who see the world through a slightly warped lens. Salon of the Surreal is an invitation to join in person, converse, and play in the liminal space between the real and unreal. This is where conversation becomes artful and absurdity becomes insight.
We will visit the surreal, in all its forms. We will explore dream logic, philosophy, art, poetry, film, music, and strangeness that stretches perception. Each gathering centers on an open-ended prompt — an image, phrase, piece of art, or question that invites you to dip beneath the surface of reason into sensible nonsense.
Think prohibition-era salon adorned with playful smoke & mirrors. Embody the art! Show up with curiosity, humor, cheekiness, and a nod to classic eccentricity. 1920s-inspired attire and dreamlike flair are highly encouraged. Lucid or half-dreaming, caffeinated or cosmic, come ready to engage, converse, and be surprised.
Reality is closed for renovations. Until further notice, meet us in the Salon.
✨WHAT TO EXPECT
✔️ This will be free flowing and evolving with time, but right now we meet once a month on a Sunday.✔️ We’ll begin with introductions and a thematic spark: a poem, dream, artwork, musical piece, film, or curious question.
✔️ From there, conversation flows with guided prompts weaving between imagination, symbolism, and shared reflections.
✔️ Everyone is expected & encouraged to speak.
✔️ Occasionally, special guests may guide short creative exercises, readings, or experiments in perception.
✔️ The atmosphere will be intimate and intentionally aesthetic, hosted at neighborhood bars and creative spaces with a touch of the 1920s surrealist flair.
✔️ Participants are encouraged to dress the part, arrive with sophisticated curiosity, and let the time blur the line between waking and dreaming.
🎒WHAT TO KNOW OR BRING
✔️ Bring your curiosity and a healthy disregard for logic.✔️ Leave your to-do lists and reasoned arguments at the door.
✔️ Bring your wonder, whimsy, and whatever’s been haunting your subconscious lately.
✔️ Most importantly, leave your phone in your pocket.
*In true speakeasy fashion, photos from the gatherings are not to be posted, broadcasted, or shared on social media. Only 2 photos from the event will be shared by your host with Creative Mornings HQ.
✔️ Optional, but encouraged:
* A notebook for capturing strange musings.
* A poem, sketch, or odd artifact you feel compelled to share.
* 1920s-inspired accessories or outfit — classy & creative.
ABOUT YOUR HOST
My name is Neha “Ney” Sharma and I’m a yoga & meditation teacher, writer, creative polymath, and lifelong explorer of liminal spaces — often between waking and dreaming. I believe conversation can be an art form, and gathering over shared interests can be spellbinding.
This is meant to be an experience where imagination leads and reality politely steps aside. Salon of the Surreal was brewed up and born from that impulse: to revive the spirit of the 1920s Parisian salons, where thinkers, poets, and mystics blurred the borders of sense and sensation.
Here, the absurd is welcome. The mysterious, celebrated. We’ll meet in dimly lit bars and velvet corners, dressed to the nines to speak of dreams, symbols, and the subtle alchemy of art and psyche. This is not escapism, but expansion. A gentle enchanting revolt against reason. This is a society for those who find truth in paradox, laugh at logic, and dream with their eyes open.
We are meeting at The Richardson (451 Graham Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222) at 5:30pm on Sunday, 10/26! See you there.
