About the speaker
Sahara Clemons is a multimedia artist, designer, and activist born in Washington D.C and based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Playing with both the traditional and unconventional, Clemons creates paintings on wood and fabric, wearable art and fashion design. Her work confronts interpersonal and intersectional concepts and provides commentary on the historic political, and social trauma of people of color and its effect on shaping identity.

The Fralin Museum of Art
The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia is dedicated to creating an environment in which the largest possible share of its diverse constituencies, including members of the University community and the general public, can study and learn from the direct experience of works of art. The Museum promotes visual literacy as part of a broader, comprehensive education for all and seeks to enhance its visitors’ perceptions and understanding of world cultures throughout history and of art as an enduring human endeavor. To this end, the Museum shall acquire, preserve, study, exhibit, and interpret works of art of the highest quality in a variety of media that represent the world’s cultures from earliest times to the present.

New City Arts
New City Arts is a 501©3 community arts organization founded in 2009 to support artists and facilitate cultural participation in Charlottesville, VA. Working to make Charlottesville a more livable place for artists by creating connections between artists and unique audiences through creative conversations, art spaces, and community-building collaborations, New City Arts serves approximately 60 Charlottesville area artists and 6,000 audience members annually.
