About the speaker

Ruth Borgfjord was born and raised in Romania. Barely an adult she moved her entire life to Canada. Her first area of expertise is early childhood education which she acquired while studying there. She worked as a child care inspector for the government of Canada. Although fulfilled mentally for many years by her work as an inspector for the well-being of children, she felt her soul was dying from a lack of self expression. So she quit her job to connect to her soul without knowing how. After living in Canada for 12 years and 6 months in New Zealand, Ruth returned to Romania to go to school again where she graduated from the University of Art and Design Cluj. She began searching for her own voice in the art world and quickly made a connection between her art and soul healing. As an artist her work stems from her personal chronology combined with research and games of imagination. Upon her move to Cluj, Romania Ruth also mobilised an informal group called LES Sisterhood Cluj, the first group of LGBT women in Romania. From the first event several yeas ago - ‘Coming Out Stories’, to regular events of socialising, human rights advocacy and sharing life stories, Ruth has been a public promoter of courageous connections made by people to their souls, their purpose, their truth. Between her social activism and traveling around the world exhibiting her latest works of art, most recently Ruth wrote a book in Romanian called “Eu sunt fata. Pot sa fac orice” (I am a girl. I can do anything). Ruth is currently living and working out of Cluj, Romania together with her life partner.
